Repotting Bonsai Trees: A Step-by-Step Guide
Repotting bonsai trees is an essential part of maintaining their health and ensuring proper growth. Over time, bonsai trees outgrow their pots, their roots become compacted, and the soil quality diminishes, which can affect water drainage and nutrient absorption. Typically, most bonsai trees require repotting every two to three years, although this varies depending on the species and growth rate.
The best time to repot is during early spring, just before new growth begins. To repot your bonsai, start by gently removing it from its current pot, carefully untangling and trimming excess roots with clean scissors. Replace the old soil with fresh, well-draining bonsai soil, ensuring the tree is securely anchored in its new home. Finish by watering thoroughly and placing the bonsai in a shaded area for a few weeks to allow it to recover. Regular repotting not only keeps your bonsai healthy but also gives you an opportunity to inspect its roots and refresh its overall appearance.
We will be covering this in the next group session on the 7th MARCH
Please do bring one or two of your favourite bonsais (if you have some ) and we can look and discuss them as a group and address any issues or concerns you may have .
See you all on the 7th of MARCH,
